The Best Artificial Intelligence Podcasts

Patrick Breitenbach

What’s the best artificial intelligence podcast?

Well, podcasts are one of the best ways to get in-depth information on up and coming technologies, hear of new scientific findings from scientists, and learn about topics such as artificial intelligence and robots. An artificial intelligence podcast provides listeners with philosophical conversations, new breakthroughs in AI technology, and numerous other related topics. Many well-known podcasts such as NPR’s: Planet Money and Radiolab occasionally have episodes dedicated to discussing the different sides of artificial intelligence. While these are interesting, they usually just give a broad overview and often do not have enough time to get into the details of AI. They usually discuss philosophical angles of AI and topics that users may be more familiar with such as Google AI. Due to these constraints, many artificial intelligence podcasts have been started to give more information to those who want it. So what is the best artificial intelligence podcast? Here we rank the best artificial intelligence podcast and give a short description of each one.

AI Podcast #6: O’Reilly Bots—AI and machine learning

Well known media company O’Reilly Media provides training in technology and business aspects for companies undergoing large shifts. One small part of their business is providing information about AI. The O’Reilly Bots podcast does interview some interesting people who are very involved in AI and machine learning. However, the website is hard to navigate and hard to find, and lately the podcast only provides one new episode a month.

AI Podcast #5 Concerning AI — AI is a threat to humanity

This AI podcast, hosted by Brandon Sanders and Ted Sarvata, takes a more philosophical look at AI. The basis of Concerning AI is the idea that AI is a threat to humanity and that answers must be sought to answer what we can do about it. Although very opinionated, and not necessarily rooted in scientific research, the podcast is very easy to listen to and gives listeners something to think about. One caveat is the podcast only comes out with episodes every other week. This is a nice addition to the list as most other artificial intelligence podcast are rooted in a pro-AI stance.

AI Podcast #4: Learning Machines 101 — a how to guide on machine learning and AI

A great pick is Learning Machines 101. This podcast is over 3 years old and is unique from the other podcasts as it rarely interviews other speakers. Dr. Richard Golden hosts the podcast and gives listeners a “how-to” guide on everything machine learning and AI. The episodes are relatively short (20-30 minutes). One caveat is that while the podcast claims it is suitable for a general audience, the majority of episodes require some background in AI and appear to be better suited for academics and engineers.

AI Podcast #3: Artificial Intelligence in Industry with Dan Faggella — on the AI industry

Dan Faggella interviews top engineers, investors, and researchers from major companies on the front lines of AI development. Artificial Intelligence in Industry focuses more on what AI is doing for people in industry rather than how AI affects the general public. While easy to listen to, the narrow niche of the podcast seems to make the podcast less popular than some of the other podcasts listed here.

AI Podcast #2 The AI podcast — best for a general audience

A subset of the company NVIDIA (a major graphics processing unit designer) is dedicated to AI and has produced a podcast, updated weekly. Of the podcasts listed here, this may be the easiest to listen to and the best for a general audience. The podcast has a few thousand followers, and interviews a wide array of professionals in the AI industry. The podcasts website states the interview experts “in artificial intelligence, deep learning, and machine learning to explain how it works, how it’s evolving, and how it intersects with every facet of human endeavor, from art to science.”

The BEST artificial intelligence podcast: This Week in Machine Learning and AI — super in-depth

The best of the bunch is This Week in Machine Learning and AI (or TWiML&AI for short). Created by Sam Charrington, this podcast interviews professors, engineers, data analysts, and a host of others all working in the fields of machine learning and/or AI. The podcast takes a more in-depth look at these topics, and even alerts listeners with a “nerd alert” if the content will be very in-depth and may be hard to understand for some listeners. The podcast is just over a year old but has received wide praise by those in and outside of the machine learning and AI industry.
