AI Chatbot “Ruuh” Finds Purpose in Unexpected Place

An AI Chatbot created by Microsoft, called “Ruuh,” has made headlines for aiming to help handloom weavers in India. Ruuh will be able to help generate design patterns by incorporating different selected pictures and colors using neural networks.

AI Chatbots have been increasingly useful in quite a few different careers. They offer many companies an affordable way to utilize technology to make their lives easier. While most notably these AI chatbots have been used as virtual personal assistants or even customer service reps, Ruuh is a little different.

Ruuh is specifically targeting weavers in rural India. The aim of the program is not only to help make things a little easier for struggling weavers but to also help stimulate the economy. Many of these Indian weavers have kept up the tradition for generations. The ancient practice is very intricate, and, unfortunately, is not the biggest money-maker. With the help of Ruuh, weavers will be able to generate brand new patterns much easier.

Saving time and money, the AI Chatbot will allow them to create new pieces at a much faster rate. The combination of technology and tradition will only further innovate the ancient practice while encouraging these people in rural India to preserve their ancient artform.
